Summer show. Master students of prof Valérie Favre (UdK Berlin)

Die Galerie koal freut sich, in der diesjährigen Sommerausstellung drei junge Meisterschüler der UDK Berlin von Valérie Favre zu präsentieren. Katja Kollowa, Lara Goldmann und Philipp Rößle. Die Ausstellung eröffnet am 21. Juni um 19 Uhr und ist bis zum 27. Juli 2013 zu sehen. Katja Kollowa beendete ihr Meisterjahr bereits 2007, sie stellt ihre Betonarbeiten in raum 01 aus. Lara Goldmann und Philipp Rößle stehen kurz vor Abschluss ihres Meisterjahres und bespielen gemeinsam raum 02.

raum 01 Die Objekte, die Katja Kollowa zeigt, sind aus dem allgegenwärtigen Material Beton gefertigt. Als Baustoff einer uniformierten Weltoberfläche kann es für Gegenwart und geplante Zukunft stehen, für Massenkompatibilität und Unangreifbarkeit. Mit ihren Arbeiten bricht die Künstlerin diese Konnotationen auf und setzt den geometrischen Strukturen der öffentlichen Architektur spontan und zufällig wirkende Formen entgegen, in Beton gegossene "Flecken" und "Quellungen". Trotz des massiven Materials wirken diese fast schwerelos, wie Manifeste des losgelöst Individuellen, die sich dem zwingend Funktionalen widersetzen. So bilden Kollowas Betonarbeiten auch einen markanten Kontrapunkt zum Diktat der technischen Perfektion.

raum 02 Lara Goldmann präsentiert drei "installative Gemälde" und zwei Schriftarbeiten auf Plexiglas. Die Kunststoffplatten, ihrer früheren Nutzung entrückt und in ein Raster aus Einzelteilen fragmentiert, lassen jeden Pragmatismus sichtbar zerfallen und bilden schließlich eine Legierung mit dem Ausstellungsraum. Anhand der unterliegenden Papierschichten, die Spuren des Gestaltungsprozesses aufgenommen haben, dokumentiert die Künstlerin die Entwicklung ihrer Objekte. Die gleichzeitige Abbildung von Worten, die ihrem Entstehungskontext entbunden sind, bildet dazu einen Kontrast und eine Ergänzung. So stellt Goldmann die Beschaffenheit der Wirklichkeit dar: In jedem Augenblick entsteht sie aus Versatzstücken neu. Philipp Rößle ergründet in seiner Malerei das Spektrum farbiger Abstraktion und findet dadurch neue Perspektiven auf eine ganz gegenständliche Lebenswelt. Dem Wort Montherlants folgend, dass in der Kunst das Ergebnis zähle, versteht Rößle seine Motive als Keimzellen und Entfaltungsrahmen für lebendige Variationen einer reduzierten Formensprache. Zu den Arbeiten auf Papier und größeren Motivwiederholungen auf Leinwand kommt eine Wandmalerei des Künstlers, wodurch der Eindruck einer Collage im Raum entsteht.

Galerie koal is pleased to present three young master students of UdK professor Valérie Favre’s in this year‘s summer exhibition: Katja Kollowa, Lara Goldmann and Philipp Rößle. Katja Kollowa has already completed her master year in 2007. She displays her works in concrete in raum 01. Lara Goldmann and Philipp Rößle are nearing the end of their respective master years and together playfully arrange raum 02.

raum 01 Katja Kollowa shows objects made of concrete. As an almost ubiquitous building material it can symbolise the present and plans for the future, mass compatibility and unassailability. The artist breaks up these connotations in her works and counters the geometrical structures of public architecture with apparently spontaneous and arbitrary forms, “blotches” and “swellings” cast in concrete. Despite the solid material they seem almost weightless, like manifestations of the detached individual resisting the compulsively functional. In this way Kollowa‘s concrete works mark a striking counterpoint to the dictat of technical perfection.

raum 02 Lara Goldmann presents three “installational paintings” as well as two works of writing on Perspex. The acrylic panels are displaced from their previous use and fragmented into a grid of individual pieces. They visibly dissolve all pragmatism, eventually alloying with the exhibition space. The artist documents the evolution of her objects by means of the underlying layers of paper, which have absorbed the traces of the formation. The simultaneous depicting of words taken out of their original context provides both a contrast and a supplement to this. That is how Goldmann represents the complexion of reality: it emerges anew from elementary constituents at every instant. In his paintings Philipp Rößle explores the spectrum of colourful abstraction, finding new perspectives on an entirely object-oriented life-world. In accordance with Montherlant‘s quote that in art only results count, Rößle considers his motifs to be both germ cells and development-frame for vivid variations of a reduced language of form. In addition to the works on paper and larger repetitions of motif on canvas there is a mural painting by the artist, generating a sense of collage in space.
