Susy Gomez: mother faher

Susy Gómez (* 1964 Pollença, Mallorca) ist eine äußerst vitale und universale Künstlerin! Seit Jahren exploriert Sie ergebnisreich in vielen Gebieten der Kunst: der Malerei, Skulptur, Fotografie, Video, Performance und in den meisten Fällen fügt sie all diese Elemente zu großen Installationen zusammen: zu mentalen Landschaften reflektiver Prozesse. Um die Dinge thematisch und formal auf den Punkt zu bringen, legt Sie dabei gerne das Vergrößerungsglas an: skizzenhafte Aquarelle, zarte Silberknospen und poetische Collagen mutieren zu riesengroßen blow ups: Alice in wonderland trifft auf ihre Psychoanalytikerin!

Das Zentrum der Ausstellung in der Galerie bildet eine überdimensionierte Handtasche aus Leder, aber nicht irgendeine, sondern der Klassiker aus dem Hause Hermès, der Kelly bag, die in einer Größe von 3 Metern Sehnsüchte schürt: „Por Amor“ (aus Liebe), spricht von der Bedeutung, welche die Metapher auf der Suche nach „großen“ Gefühlen einnimmt. Susy Gómez lädt auch die Besucher der Ausstellung ein, aktiv an dieser Recherche teilzunehmen, indem sie Notizen zu diesem Thema machen und diese quasi in die Tasche stecken.

Mit Meret Oppenheim oder Louise Bourgeois verbindet Gómez ein femininer, psycho-logisierender Ansatz, aus dem Reservoir der eigenen Biographie zu schöpfen: so ist die Skulptur, die der Ausstellung den Titel „mother father“ gibt, nach einem Boot benannt, das auf Mallorca real existiert und für die Wiener Ausstellung in Originalgröße von fünf Metern in Aluminium nachgegossen sein wird. Es ist eine Hommage an eine retrospektiv emotionale Haltung und Einladung, einige Momente der eigenen Existenz der Künstlerin zu durchreisen. Ähnlich verhält es sich bei den Arbeiten „Es la hora de agua II“, bei der Kleidungsstücke aus der Garderobe der Künstlerin 1:1 in Aluminium abgegossen werden. Erkundungen in der mentalen Landschaft der Künstlerin verspricht auch die Video Arbeit „Para hacerme visible“ (Um mich sichtbar zu machen) von 2006, in welcher eine Familienaufstellung mit realen Persönlichkeiten aus dem Umfeld der Künstlerin im Atelier vorgenommen wird.

Susy Gomez’ Ausstellung ist eine Anregung, durch Reflexion des eigenen Inneren die Welt um uns zu verändern.

Susy Gómez (*1964 Pollença, Mallorca) is an extraordinarily vital and universal artist! For years she has been successfully exploring various fields of art: painting, sculpture, photography, video, performance and most of the time she joins all these elements together to a huge installation: to mental landscapes of reflective processes. In order to lead things – thematically and formally - to the point, she often applies the magnifying glass: sketchy watercolours, delicate silver buds and poetic collages mutate to huge blow-ups: Alice in wonderland meets her psychoanalyst!

The centre of the exhibition in the Viennese gallery will be an oversize leather handbag. Not an ordinary one, but the famous classic from Hermès, the Kelly bag. With a dimension of 3 metres it allows to stoke longings: “Por Amor” (out of love) tells us about the meaning which the metaphor captures while searching for “great” feelings. Susy Gómez also invites the visitors to take an active part in this investigation by writing down notes to this topic and putting them into the bag later on.

It is the feminine and psychological approach to acquire out of one’s own biographic reservoir, which Susy Gómez has in common with Meret Oppenheim or Louise Bourgeois. This is why the sculpture “mother father” – which gives the exhibition its title - is named after a boat that really exists in Mallorca, Spain. For the Viennese exhibition this boat was recreated (cast in aluminium) in its original size of five metres. It is an hommage to a retrospectively emotional attitude as well as it should be an invitation to travel through some moments of the artist’s own existence.

A similar pattern can be found in the works “Es la hora de agua II”, for which the artist cast full size aluminium-copies of garments out of her own wardrobe, or the video installation “Para hacerme visible” (to make myself visible). The work from 2006 again promises reconnaissances in the artist’s mental landscape. It shows the method of family constellations with real persons out of the artist’s environment and in her studio.

Susy Gómez’s exhibition is an impulse to change the world around us in reflecting our inside.
