Carolee Schneemann (b. 1939, Fox Chase / Kentucky) based in New York, is a pioneer of performance art, who was awarded the Golden Lion for her life work at the Venice Biennale 2017. Her works on gender roles and sexuality are of great influence on subsequent artist generations. She confronts the voyeur with the poetics of the female body.
