Christo (Christo Vladimirov Javachef, b. 1935, Gabrovo, Bulgaria; d. 2020, New York) und Jeanne-Claude (Jeanne-Claude Denat de Guillebon, b. 1935, Casablanca, Morocco; d. 2009, New York) have worked together as a married couple, for many years. In 1960 Christo joined the group 'New Realism' (founded by Pierre Restany and Yves Klein). He had exhibitions at Leo Castelli Gallery in New York and Galerie Schmela in Düsseldorf. The best known works of Christo and Jeanne-Claude are '5600 cubicmeter package' at the documenta 4 in Kassel, 1968; 'Valley Curtain', Rocky Mountains in Colorado, 1971; 'Surrounded Islands', Biscayne Bay between Miami, North Miami and Miami Beach, 1983; 'Veiling of the Reichstag building in Berlin', 1995; 'The Floating Piers', Lake Iseo, 2016, amongst others.
