Dario Fo (1926 born in Sangiano, Italy, died 2016) was a theater author, director, composer, and actor, whose artistic guiding theme was: the liberated laugh. He studied art and architecture in Milan and founded the theater company "La compagnia Dario Fo - Franca Rame" in 1959 and "La Comune" in Milan together with his wife Franca Rame in 1968. Fo arranged political and socialcritical theater plays and was arrested several times on the stage. In 1997, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. Most of his work is translated by Peter O. Chotjewitz.
