Dumb Type, an artist collective founded in 1984 in Kyoto by students of the Kyoto City University of Arts, criticizes in installations and performances the consumer society, which has become passive and mute due to the incessant flood of data and technological development: Individuals who are "overwhelmed with information without understanding anything" (Teiji Furuhashi).
