Jean Fautrier (born 1898, Paris, 1964, Châtenay-Malabry / Paris) is one of the inventors of the Informal painting. In 1959 he took part in documenta 2 in Kassel and in 1960 he received the Grand Prix of the Venice Biennale. Famous works are the "Têtes Otages series" (painted during World War II) and "Têtes de Partisans" (1955-56).
