Leonardo da Vinci (1452 born in Vinci / Italy, died 1519 in Castle Cloux near Amboise / France) was a universal genius, who worked as a painter, sculptor, architect, musician, mechanic, engineer, philosopher and naturalist and he is one of the most famous artists of all epochs. He tried to develop the synthesis of science and art. Famous works are: The Last Supper, 1497; Vitruvian Man, 1490; Lady with an Ermine, 1490; Mona Lisa, 1506; The Virgin and Child with St Anne, 1510; Self-portrait in red chalk, 1512; Embryo in the Womb, 1512.
