Marcel Broodthaers (born 1924 in Brussels, died 1976 in Cologne) lived in Brussels, Düsseldorf, London, Berlin and Cologne. He was a poet and since 1964 he turned to visuel arts and was one of the most influential artists for subsequent artists. 1947 he signed the Surrealist Manifesto. From 1968 to 1972, he developed the 'Museum of Modern Art, Department of Eagles', a traveling museum dedicated to the role of the institution itself and the function of art in society. 1977, 1982 and 1997 his work was presented at the documenta 6, 7 and 10 in Kassel.
