press release
Frieze Projects is a high profile public arts commissioning opportunity for artists and in 2005 features innovative new works by Michael Beutler, Jay Chung & Q Takeki Maeda, Henrik Håkansson, Roger Hiorns, Matthieu Laurette, Martha Rosler, Donald Urquhart, Richard Wentworth, Ian Wilson, Cathy Wilkes and Andrea Zittel with collaborating institutions Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam (SMBA) and the International Artist Studio Programme in Sweden (IASPIS).
Frieze Projects, all of which will be unveiled at Frieze Art Fair 2005, are expanding this year to encompass physically ambitious sculptural projects; film and video commissions - screened in The Artists Cinema - and a daily performance programme.
We are pleased to announce that Frieze Projects 2005 will be presented in association with Cartier. Cartier's long involvement with contemporary art, primarily though the Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain in Paris, makes them the ideal partner for this innovative series of commissions.
The series of Frieze Talks which complements Frieze Projects 2005 will tie-in closely with editorial in the October issue of frieze magazine.
Frieze Education takes place on the final day of Frieze Art Fair and will provide local school children with an introduction to different art concepts and aims to encourage future participation in the arts.
Frieze Projects, Frieze Talks and Frieze Education are curated by Polly Staple.
The programme is generously supported by public and private sponsorship. Frieze Projects and Frieze Talks are supported by the Culture 2000 programme of the European Union (2005-07), in association with IASPIS, Stockholm; SMBA, Amsterdam; Project, Dublin; Platform Garanti Contemporary Art Center, Istanbul and Sala Rekalde, Bilbao. Frieze Projects are supported by Cartier.
