5th Bienal VentoSul

The 5th Latin-American Visual Arts Biennial – VentoSul hapens in Curitiba from august to October 2009. The general curators are the art critics Ticio Ecobar e Leonor Amarante. A consultive council formed by the experient critics Fabio Magalhães, Fernando Cocchiarale, Ivo Mesquita, Justo Pastor Mellado, Andrea Giunta, Tereza de Arruda and Berta Sichel contributes with the general curators.

The selected artists will exhibit works at many museum spaces and also at parks, squares and other public spaces.

In parallel with the opening in Curitiba and celebrating the creation of the Federal University of Latin-American Integration - UNILA, a special module of the biennial will take place in the EcoMuseu of Itaipu Binacional in Foz do Iguacu, host city of UNILA.

With the title: Large Water: Maps Altered, the V edition of the VentoSul Biennial reunites art works of artists from different parts of the planet: North and south, center and outskirts, warm and cold poles, First and Third Worlds.

The places of origin of the artists are considered places of different enunciations and signs of diversity, not mere fixed geographic location indexes.

It is, therefore, a cut in international contemporary production. The artists and works selected will follow guidelines of questions raised about two important issues of our time: water and maps.

Besides the exhibits, including special rooms, there will also happen meetings of art critics, artists´ lectures, guests lectures, the exhibition VentoSul: Videos de artista”, performing actions, and a large education project. A catalog with more than 400 pages will be edited containing texts about the artists, résumés and pictures of the works.

After the Biennial in Curitiba and Foz do Iguacu, specific works and events will travel major cities in Brazil and abroad.
