EXHIBITION: through Friday, 10/27/06

“The common denominator of recent disasters is displacement, the situation of survivors. I would argue that though displacement is no consolation, it still offers a ray of hope, a beginning as well as an ending.” – Michèle C. Cone, curator

In the exhibition Allegories of Displacement, curator Michèle C. Cone explores the subject of imposed displacement after events such as wars and natural disasters, an issue that has infiltrated our lives most emphatically in recent times. The curator posits that though displacement is no consolation, it still offers a ray of hope, a beginning as well as an ending.

The exhibition features an international roster of artists, including Willie Birch (U.S), Mona Hatoum (Lebanon/U.K.), Susanna Heller (New York, NY), William Kentridge (South Africa), Clifton Meador (U.S.), Jin Meyerson (Korea), Kimsooja (Korea), Michal Rovner (Israel), Shinique Smith (U.S.), and Sislej Xhafa (Kosovo).
