The international group show As in Real Life takes as its central theme the fascination of learning about life by trying to understand the past experiences, attitudes and traditions of our grandparents' generation. The exhibition also interrogates notions of intergenerational dialogue and oral history, and as such is also an exhibition about 'disappearance'. The participating artists deal with memories, legacies, and the traces left behind and in so doing speak also about the issue of aging. In most of these art projects, very personal documents and the examination of the history of an individual become more general stories that can be taken as models for life itself.
Participating artists: Katja Baumgarten, Lada Cerar, Carola Dertnig, Tanja Lažetić, Wiebke Loeper, Susanne Schulz, Katerina Seda, Moira Zoitl
Curated by: Julia Schäfer Julia Schäfer is a curator at the Museum for Contemporary Art in Leipzig, Germany.
