BACA Award: Mary Heilmann. Good Vibrations

At the end of September 2012, the prestigious BACA award (Biennial Award for Contemporary Art) will be presented for the seventh time in the Bonnefantenmuseum. As the initiator and organiser, the Bonnefanten has previously presented the award to the following artists: Eija-Liisa Ahtila (2000), Neo Rauch (2002), Pawel Althamer (2004), Bethan Huws (2006), John Baldessari (2008) and Francis Alÿs (2010). The BACA is the Netherlands' most important award for international visual art.

The committee were unanimous in awarding the BACA 2012 to the American artist Mary Heilmann, for her exceptional oeuvre and her great influence on younger generations of artists. From the seventies onwards, Mary Heilmann has been making her name with her abstract paintings, ceramic works and distinctive furniture.
