press release
Since cameras were invented in the 19th century, their lenses have greatly broadened people’s horizons, providing us with limitless new ways to view the world around us. Winner of the 2004 Taipei Arts Award, Mr. Zhe-yu Hsu, uses his lens to give whole new meanings to small objects found in our daily lives. His works have called on viewers to reflect on issues such as space, symbols, images and reality. In his personal series of works, he has projected the names and explanations of different spaces in their corresponding places through a projector. Moreover, he uses his camera to record all details to display a wonderful effect created by symbols and reality. His works fully prove one’s ‘existence,’ and reveal how human languages are constructed, and how spaces are developed and defined.
