Berni Searle, b. 1964 in Cape Town, South Africa. Lives and works in Cape Town.

Berni Searle is one of the African artists that has been most visible on the international art scene during the last decade. Her video installations and photos evoke, in an intimate and personal manner, questions related to identity, gender, race and history. Like Lucinda Devlin, Berni Searle took prominently part in the Venice Biennale in 2001, Searle with her video Snow White as part of the Pan-African exhibition Authenticv/Ex-cnetric: Africa in and out of Africa. Last year, Searle was selected for the annual New Photography exhibition at Museum of Modern Art, New York (until Jan.1, 2008). In addition to her exhibition in Transit Art Space, Searle will make a site-specific piece for the lighthouse at Obrestad as part of the Stavanger 2008 project On The Edge.
