Idilio is a project co-produced by the DA2 and the International Festival the International of the Arts of Castilla and Leon that reunites more than fifty artists of the five continents working mainly type of supports with which it is reflected from as complementary points of view as divergent on the prevalence - formal and metaphorical- of this subject that already appeared in the origins of the western art.
The reason for idilio is one of the oldest in the history of the European art its origin is in classic mythology and the poetry. Whereas in the Antiquity and from the Renaissance idilio played an important role like literary and pictorial sort, in century XVIII its paper began to change and finished with the beginning of modernity. With the end of idilio like sort, approximately in the middle of century XIX, the idea of the idyllic thing has not disappeared but that has been expanded in diverse artistic manifestations throughout century XX and XXI.
Indeed in the last years it has returned to receive importance under certain forms of “ironically declining Neoromanticism” or, of paradoxical way, through heterotópics” and “antiidyllic” practices “that question the art like utopia or project of life.
This exhibition shows an important selection of artists worldwide that they reflect with his work as that continuity of idilio in the social multiplicity of the present is shaped. The sample will occupy the totality of the DA2 and the Rooms of the Patio of Schools of the University of Salamanca
The real accomplishment of the ideal of idilio in the form of a connection between the art and the life has been practical habitual from the Sixties. However, whereas the attempts of those days still conserve the hope of the accomplishment, at the present time the artists seem to restrict themselves to a elegiac memory.
How shapes that continuity of idilio in the social multiplicity of the present? An answer could be that, in last instance, idilio and the idyllic thing appear like one fled from the reality, after which considers the question of what it is what it has triggered that fled from the reality. The idea of the idyllic thing is related then to the present: its idyllic nature, its no movility in a time and a space, are not possible without the contrast of a reality in constant change. A described landscape as idyllic one does not imagine by itself like so, but most of the times in relation to its opposite, for example the city. Idilio is a compensation to “the existing” reality. Thus, the concept of the idyllic thing is based on the resistance between nature and culture. The approach of this exhibition with respect to idilio is necessarily fragmentary and, none, it represents the idea of idilio integral. The traditional idea of idilio no longer seems possible by itself. Often also the contemporary art uses idilio as an expression of an emotional state or as against-image intensifies the feeling of impotence and hopelessness instead of alleviating it. Idilio we are an ideal that is old-fashioned long ago and when it appears like positive affirmation, is exposed immediately to being attacked in this sense likes to assume the risk of taking the temperature to a subject that was “generic” and that today seems led frightful “myths of the eternal return”.
