JOËLLE TUERLINCKX LA FABRIQUE D’UN SINGLESCREEN 20.09.2019 - 12.01.2020

OPENING
FRIDAY 20 SEP 2019 | 8 PM

Kunsthal Gent presents a film performance by Joëlle Tuerlinckx, a live making of the film 'The Single Screen' THAT'S IT! - Dia:Beacon 2015-2018.

Since 2015, more than 200 hours of sound and visual material was recorded at the DIA Art Foundation in Beacon, New York (US) as part of 'THAT'S IT!', a performative practice similar to a television series, which has continued to evolve across different countries and venues since 2012. All 120 edited scenes, recorded in Dia:Beacon, played, dated and titled with the name of an artist from Dia:Beacon, visible on screen or on request, form the basic material for ‘La Fabrique d'un Singlescreen’ . As a journey through this footage, each actor and musician will, through their own interpretation, compose their own live version of ‘The Single Screen’, which will be preserved in its entirety. Each of these 1h30-long live VJ sessions will be complemented by live voice-overs, vocals, subtitles or comments. At the end of the process, a series of classic as well as unique films of 1 hour and 30 minutes will be on the table. These final versions of 'The Single Screen' will be visible from December and will be presented next year at the S.M.A.K. Ghent and Dia:Beacon NY.

The project 'La Fabrique d'un Singlescreen' is located at the intersection of word, translation and gesture, sound and music, between dance, painting and sculpture.

Between two different sessions, musical interludes will take place, made especially in the context of the ecclesiastical architecture of Kunsthal Gent. The production and re-enactments will be done by regular actors from the 'THAT'S IT!' team, as well as by employees of Kunsthal Gent and, exceptionally, by visitors.

During opening hours, the 'THAT'S IT!' team regularly hosts performative moments. Be sure to mark 20 September, 20 October, 17 November, 15 December and 22 December in your agenda. (Kunsthal Gent)
