Michaël Aerts - The Immaculate Collection

Through the insistent quotation of (art) historical styles and forms, Michaël Aerts creates a complex body of work that nevertheless enjoys a highly distinctive profile. With these references, going as broad as medieval sculpture, baroque imagery and contemporary popular culture, Aerts' sculptures and drawings address the issues of power, sexuality and mobility. For his first solo exhibition at Deweer Art Gallery, "The Immaculate Collection", the artist puts this vast array of styles back into play, furthering his subjects of interest. For the first time, Michaël Aerts will assemble the individual works into the format of a public mythology.
