On Thursday 28 April 2005, A arte Studio Invernizzi presents a solo exhibition of Michel Verjux’s works related to the gallery’s space.
In this intervention he highlights two windows and two pillars, isolated in the empty space. He creates/reveals a connection among these architectural presences along two diagonal axes. Like in a mirror, the rectangular window space is perfectly redoubled by a singular luminous body that, though remaining unchanged, acquires greater or less intense visibility compared to the natural light that filtrates from the windows during the different times of the day. As for the pillars, he uses a pedestal and a pyramidal column, with a zenithal illumination which implies a bird-eye view. In fact, the visitor is climbing down the stairs right in this point. Here the light, shining down from the top, reflects on the surfaces, creates a luminous halo around the perimeter, and traces perfect squares on the floor.
Michel Verjux works with the act of seeing as the locus of the encounter with reality: in the presence of matter through the light, it is possible to acquire consciousness of the specific language of the substantiality being instituted and start a new form of communication. The potentialities of this communication may have no truth other than the link with the visible: the reality of the situation is not metaphysical - it may limit itself to being metalinguistic, and take this path to reach its foundations just the same. In the world of language, pretence is always an active metaphor, a link to reality.
On the occasion of exhibition, a bilingual catalogue will be published, including an essay by Marco Scotini, a text by Michel Verjux, the images of the works installed in the gallery, a poem by Carlo Invernizzi and bio-bibliographical notes.
