Hannah Dougherty wurde 1980 in Philadelphia (P.A.

Klara Wallner Galerie: “Ways to win or lose (the hunt, the race and all the dead soldiers)” is the title of Hannah Dougherty's latest “staging” and deals with the topic of war and peace. Typically for Dougherty, she has made use of various mythologies to create a nine-piece painting-installation, the center of which consists of three large-format canvasses depicting the pursuit of profit, the defenselessness of the victim and the race against time. As in earlier works by Dougherty, centaurs make an appearance, as does, in a figurative sense, the US-American legend of “John Henry”. In the first panel, Ovid's Acteon represents the defenselessness of soldiers, and Dougherty gives him a shield with countless arrows to protect himself. In the second panel a headless horse symbolizes the folk hero John Henry, who fought against industrialization in the 18th century and who proved, in a one-to-one fight and in a race against time, that men cannot be replaced by machines. His victory is illustrated with a flag waving in the wind, which in turn stands for patriotism. The third panel shows a male body with a horse's head, which Dougherty uses to allude to the Greek myth in which centaurs are represented as the arch-enemies of man: they were driven out of Thessaly to the Peloponnese, since they accosted the women when they were drunk. The three panels are flanked by small-format works in which, among other things, empty beer bottles are depicted, which in American slang are also known as “dead soldiers”. Hannah Dougherty has created a modern image of battle with keen irony that not only reflects the contemporary US-American history of war but can also stand as a memorial for all the wars of this world: “ways to win or lose (the hunt, race and all the dead soldiers)”. Klara Wallner PLUS: Nicole Bianchet stages spaces of abstract painting, photography and self-composed sounds. Especially for Klara Wallner PLUS she has created a large-format wall painting „Dye Heart (2)“ whose wooden skin is lacerated, scratched, and in places even flayed. The artist alludes to a corporeality in the work that is formed in an act of aggression and thus entails a very fine line between destruction and animation. A work of sound realized in collaboration with the film-music composer Claus Stecker complements the piece on the acoustic level. Electronic elements and the artist's spherical song entwine themselves with the pictorial components, producing a sampling spanning the various media. The words that the visitor can hear, just like the sentence fragments, evoking tattoos, that are inscribed into the epidermis of the wood panels, turn to narrative but ever-ambivalent nodal points, starting from which the entire Gesamtkunstwerk can be associatively grasped.

The sound refuses to be disengaged from the artistic production, and on the other hand Bianchet's music is a second leg for her to stand on as an artist. With her musical projects she also maintains a presence outside of the artistic context: Nicole Bianchet and her band “Princess of a pea” can be seen live on Sunday, March 26th, at 7:00 (Ballhaus Mitte, Auguststrasse 24, 10117 Berlin). Nicole Bianchet lives and works in Berlin. She was born in 1975 in Los Angeles (USA) and from 1995 to 2002 studied in Karlsruhe at the State Academy of Visual Arts, which awarded her the Debutante Prize in 2005. Also in 2005 she was given an individual exhibition in the Kunstverein Glückstadt to accompany her catalog and took part in the exhibit “Coup de coeur 3, A sentimental Choise”, in Crac Alsace in Altkirch, an exhibit that received international acclaim in the press.
