venue: Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh
The American artist Jasper Johns is famous for his 1950s paintings of flags, targets, numbers and alphabets, which hover between Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art.
Past Things and Present, which will be shown as part of the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art’s Year of American Art, is the artist’s first major exhibition in Scotland. Johns has consistently reinvented himself in response to new stimuli and since the early 1980s his imagery has become increasingly autobiographical. This exhibition, organised by the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, will consist of approximately one hundred paintings, drawings and prints. Pressetext
