Galeria Dels Angels presents the first solo show of the young British artist Richard T. Walker (Shropshire, UK, 1977), where the artist will be presenting its latest project “I'll be lost when I find you”, multichannel video installation with images taken at different spaces of USA .

Walker 's videos use written images, words, spoken texts and his own musical compositions as tools to confront varying feelings associated with the experience of landscape.

In exploring the visual vocabulary of the landscape British tradition, Walker attempts to position himself within the Picturesque and the Sublime. In doing so he both confirms and disrupts familiar understandings of these visual narratives. His work continuously shifts and turns, never settling but defiantly remaining inherently rooted in these grand ideals

Through confronting the aesthetic concepts of the romantic landscape the artist provides a form of pop sentimentality that visually constructs and reveals the inherent failure of language. The romantic landscape is thus an artistic cliché rather than an operative model that Walker employs as a critical tool to form a constant enquiry into the disparity between our thoughts of ‘somewhere' and what actually happens in ‘somewhere'. This is a starting point that leans towards questioning the difference between ideas of an experience and the actuality of an experience.

In many videos the artist appears alone with his guitar. This becomes illustrative of a yearning for a romantic engagement with his environment, an act that proves relentlessly impossible.

These works talk about the inevitable solitude before a real scene, about the eloquence of absence and about the resonance of the human voice and of music when coalesced within the contemplation of a landscape. Coinciding with this exhibition, Carmelitas Gallery presents the video installation from Richard T. Walker entitled “An occasional thing that happens often” (C. Doctor Dou 1/ Carme, 42).

Richard T. Walker trained in the Goldsmiths College of London (MA) and in Bath Spa University College (BA).
