Curator Mara Traumane (Latvia) will explore praxis of processual art that acts in a way as a critic of representation and institutionalism. The new forms of performances will be demonstrated; DIY or Do It Yourself praxis and interdisciplinarity will be introduced.

Chicks On Speed (COS)

Chicks On Speed is an art and music collective famous for the DIY infused borderless collaborative work in music, fashion, performance, graphic design, video, radio and for a their music label platform. Starting out with performances, DJing and as a "fake" girls band, by now COS have released 5 albums combining "punk/new wave attitude, electronic music wisdom, and a killer instinct for pop" with themes of feminism, glamour, romance, anti-consumerism and more. COS projects involve a personal/international net of co-operations with people in all creative fields.

The Chicks On Speed artists - Melissa Logan (Hamburg) A.L. Steiner (NewYork), Kathi Glas (Berlin) - will lead two days creative workshop "Free Thinking is for Free" that aims to make Riga the biggest centre of creative action - video, fashion, performance, sound, design and collaboration, colonise the National Museum of Art and create new film material.

Hayley Newman is an internationally renowned artist working in performance. A Research Tutor at both Chelsea College of Art and Design and the Royal College of Art, London, she has performed and exhibited in a number of independent spaces and institutions, including ICA, Barbican Art Centre, Tate Modern, Studio Voltaire (London) and the Ikon Gallery (Birmingham).

Lecture: Hayley Newman will be talking about her performance practice over the past 12 years, including musical performances, interventions, fictional performance documents and works leading to her current "Rubbernecking" Project.

The workshop introduces conceptual and strategic use of media and documentation in performance. Participants will take part in a 24-hour creative journey, collectively exploring and mapping the city through its news stories. Photos of the collective experience of the 24-hour workshop will be edited in the independent "Rubbernecking" publication "Diena Day", distributed with "Diena" newspaper.
