The Hut Project Escort Agency

The Hut Project Escort agency appropriates the mechanism of the guided art-tour, commissioning a pool of artists, writers and curators to escort visitors around exhibitor booths at the Zoo Art Fair 2006. Each tour will constitute one work in the overall series “The Hut Project Escort Agency”, and can be attended by up to four people.

Escorts are asked to articulate their artistic and intellectual position in relation to the artworks they view and the context in which the tours operate. Insofar as they do this escorts are also exhibiting themselves, exposing the supporting conditions of their practice directly to the tour audience, contributing to a notional “group exhibition” or “publication”.

Artists Anonymous: The Leipzig Chainsaw Massacre

Berlin based collective Artists Anonymous present an installation-performance inside two storage containers, where they will produce a work over the course of the Fair. The artists will be inside one studio container throughout the fair and their experiences and performance will be broadcast onto screens inside the adjacent container for public viewing.

The performance is about 2 people fighting the brainwash education and the sentimental look at the past at Hochschule fur Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig, that takes them 2 minutes. After they have destroyed these cardboard visions of their nemeses - they have to face that they are trapped in an artificial cage for 4 days with a lost plot and their broken marriage, they abuse one-another and there’s nothing and nobody to help but the chain-sawed cardboard figures. The collective work in various media including painting, theatre, photography and film, weaving them together by using one as the template for another.

At the end of the Fair the recording of the performance, the paintings made, the installation inside the studio with cardboard figures and furniture, will chart their claustrophobic experience at Zoo Art Fair.

Overcoat Gallery in collaboration with White Space Gallery

White Space Gallery is pleased to present a performance project in collaboration with artist Alexander Petrelli and his Overcoat Gallery. During the Fair, Petrelli will inhabit the aisles and public areas as an amiable performance artist. Wearing a long overcoat, which he opens conspiratorially he will show visitors small paintings and photographs pinned to the lining, complete with price tags, catalogue texts. The works exhibited in the Overcoat Gallery change everyday and feature work by Dubosssarsky&Vinogradov, Oleg Kulik, and younger international artists.

Alexander Petrelli is from Odessa but lives in Moscow. He has exhibited internationally, including in the Stedlijk Museum (Amsterdam), Art Moscow.

Leipzig Photography

Under the guidance of tutor Timm Rautert a generation of highly conceptual photographers are emerging from the Hochschule fur Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig. Working with traditional and digital media these artists explore photography in the broadest sense, exposing it as an incredibly flexible art form. Unified as a group the Leipzig photographers can be identified by their meticulous approach to the construction of each image or series and the immaculate presentation of each work. Selected artists shown at Zoo Art Fair will be Ricardo Roggan, Adrian Sauer, Falk Haberkorn. Works are exhibited in Leiths Café area in the marquee.

James Ireland Standard Description

James Ireland presents an outdoor sculpture, which continues his exploration and deconstruction of how our ideas of the natural world are packaged. Using minimal elements to invoke a symbol for landscape the work is a model for understanding space. Orbits become frames, a branch becomes an armature, simultaneously holding nature in place and delineating our perception of it.
