Alexander Ponomarev (born in Dnepropetrovsk/USSR,Ukraine in 1957) is a Multidisciplinary artist, nautical engineer and Member of the Russian Academy of Art. In 2017 he is commissioner of the 1st Antarctic Biennale. In 2014 he established the first supranational pavilion 'The Antarctic Pavilion' in Venice. Over 30 years, he has organized artistic projects and exhibitions. His artworks are in the permanent collections of the Louvre Museum, Paris; Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; Louise T Blouin Foundation, London; Museum of Contemporary Art of the Grand Duke, Luxembourg; State Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow; State Russian Museum, Saint Petersburg; etc. Ponomarev studied at the Odessa Higher Engineering Marine School and worked as a naval officer on submarines and ships.
