Anthonis van Dyck (Anton Van Dyck, Anthony Van Dyck, b. 1599, Antwerp, d. 1641, London) was an artist in the 'Golden Age' and one of the most important painters and graphic artists of the Baroque. He portrayed emperors and dignitaries in splendid, genteel elegance - despite the raging 30-year war in Europe. He was an associate of Peter Paul Rubens and at the same time his biggest rival.
