Charles Ethan Porter (b. 1847, Hartford, Connecticut; d. 1923, Rockville, Connecticut) was admitted to the prestigious National Academy of Design in 1869. He continued his education in Paris, painting in the French countryside and exploring Impressionism. His works are in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the New Britain Museum of American Art, the Birmingham Museum of Art, the San Antonio Museum of Art, and the Wadsworth Atheneum, among others.
