Louise Nevelson (Louise Berliawsky, born 1899 in Kiew/Ukraine, died 1988 in New York) was a sculptor and painter. She studied at the Art School of Hans Hofmann in Munich and was Assistant to Diego Rivera. 1943 she participated in the "Exhibition by 31 Women" in Peggy Guggenheim's Gallery 'Art of This Century' in New York. Her famous works were sculptural environments, large relief walls and assemblages dipped in black, white or gold color.
