Louise Nevelson (Louise Berliawsky, b. 1899, Kiew/Ukraine; d. 1988, New York) was a sculptor and painter. 1943 she participated in the "Exhibition by 31 Women" in Peggy Guggenheim's Gallery 'Art of This Century' in New York. Her famous works were sculptural environments, large relief walls and assemblages dipped in black, white or gold color. Louise Nevelson studied at the Art School of Hans Hofmann in Munich and was Assistant to Diego Rivera.
