Martin Puryear (b. 1941, Washington / D.C., USA) is a pioneer of minimalist sculpture, based in upstate New York. He has held retrospectives at the Museum of Modern Art and the National Gallery of Art in Washington. Puryear studied at Yale University and taught at Fisk University in Nashville and at the University of Illinois in Chicago.
In 2019 he will take part in the 58th Venice Biennale.
