Pieter Bruegel the Elder (Pieter Brueghel d. Ä., Bauernbruegel, born between 1525 and 1530 in Breugel near Breda, died 1569 Brussels) was a painter and draftsman who revolutionized painting. He created moral pictures, allegories and scenes of peasant everyday life and expresses himself in his works as a storyteller, satirist and social critic. Worldwide, the artist is attributed about 40 paintings, 60 drawings and 80 graphics. His sons are Pieter Bruegel the Younger (hellbruegel) and Jan Bruegel the Elder (flower and velvet Bruegel).
