press release
The Blue Noses was founded in 1998 by a small group of Russian photographers and visual artists who have developed a shared artistic strategy. One of their basic ideas is to produce works that are short and brutally humorous – along the lines of both Dadaism and traditional buffoonery. As a starting point, they have chosen to base the staging of themselves on Western stereotypes of ”Russians” – wild and bearded, perpetually freezing men in bearskin hats, corrupt spies, or drunken mafia types who tend to lose themselves in nostalgic memories of their mother.
The exhibition will present videos and photos by The Blue Noses, including such titles as From Siberia with Love, Death in Venice, Absolute Blue Noses and If I Were Harry Potter.
