press release

Pressetext :

FOTOFEST 2002 presented an ambitious 2-part program of new technology / mixed media and classical photography, reaching across 130 years of photo-related art. Through the juxtaposition of black and white classical photography with the work of artists who are transforming silver gelatin print into digitized imagery, mixing photography with other media and using the fluid medium of the Internet, we were hoping to challenge people to examine the relationships between past and future in art.

FotoFest’s own two-part exhibition program, The Classical Eye and Beyond, presented five Classical Photography exhibitions never before shown in the U.S. and 27 contemporary Mixed Media and New Technology installations.

In conjunction with its exhibitions, FotoFest® sponsored special collaborations with independent curators and community arts organizations.

In addition to exhibitions curated and commissioned by FotoFest, over 125 other organizations (major museums, commercial galleries, and universities as well as non-profit, alternative and corporate spaces) sponsored exhibitions throughout the city and adjoining counties.
