Julião Sarmento

Juliao Sarmento started his career as an artist under the totalitarian regime in Portugal. Only at the end of the Seventies he gets the opportunity to travel abroad and is getting in touch with the international art scene. Even so, he already got informed before, through illegal channels, about the art scene abroad. Beside personal matters, his work is reflecting about the significance and danger of second hand information.

In the Mid Eighties, beside his paintings, he started to produce video-art and movies.

The exhibition in MDD will show a series of new paintings and some of the most important video installations from the last decades.
