Molluskkollektiv

Published twice a year since its inception in November 2005, Mollusk magazine rounds off Bongout’s numerous activities, which include silkscreen printing, graphic design, artists books, and more recently, a gallery space at 110 Torstrasse. The recent launch of the magazine’s 5th issue provides us with an opportunity to retrace the highlights of this self-proclaimed "encyclopaedia de Bongout" by means of an exhibition featuring a both comprehensive and representative choice of the editors activities, affinities, and aesthetic interests.

Bongout has therefore invited the artists who have previously contributed to Mollusk to take part in this show entitled Molluskkollektiv. Adopting the magazine’s strategy, the hanging will proceed from chance encounters and the clash of images culled from a wide range of sources as demonstrated in Damien Deroubaix’s and Manuel Ocampo’s pictures of violence, the advertisement graphics of Joep Van Liefland’s Video Palace, Les Krims’s psychosocial photographs, Stu Mead’s child erotica paintings, Charles Krafft’s war-related kitsch objects, and Antoine Bernhart’s pornographic drawings . The exhibition Molluskkollektiv thus allows spectators to discover the world of Mollusk and inspect by seeing them "for real" the aesthetic choices that have come to characterise the magazine. They will witness a distorted reflection of the world that surrounds us, a mixture of lucid innocence, camp culture, and political incorrectness, in which "bon goût" "good taste" is no fortuitous word.
