THE ARMORY SHOW
September 9 – 14, 2021
At this year’s Armory Show, Sies + Höke is pleased to present a solo presentation by German artist Peppi Bottrop (b. 1986 in Bottrop, Germany) in collaboration with gallery Meyer Riegger, Berlin/Karlsruhe, focusing on new works especially developed and made for this occasion.
Using mostly coal, Peppi Bottrop, who graduated from the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf in 2014, where he studied under Albert Oehlen, Andreas Schulze and Jutta Koether, creates compositions related to linear and geometric shapes. In doing so, he is always driven and pushed by an active impulse, which again is absorbed by his vibrating lines not only visibly expressing speed and energy, but also sensing it. Ever so often they appear rich and agile, then again manically tightly packed or calm, stoic and poetic in their dense asceticism never loosing their energetic feeling. Thereby, his graphic works establish a distinctive visual language that shifts between constructivism and deconstructivism as well as figuration and abstraction.
