- Critical paintings of the newly deseased Pope Johannes Paul II - Portraits of wellknown as well as unknown turks with the headline ”Are the turks european?” - A ghostlike portrait of Hitler as a child - Fascinating sculptures examining the connection between christianity, islam and judaism

Using the title ”European Dialogue”, PRO for the third year focuses on a Europe in rapid change. A change which of course has an impact on its art

This year PRO is proud to present the german worldfamous star Cornelia Schleime (born 1953) whose art refers to human rights, freedom of speech and christianity. In a portrait series of the newly deseased Pope Johannes Paul II the artist considers the double nature and status as a deeply conservative, almost saint-like icon and a fierce critic of both the economic order of the world as well as the actual foreign politics of North America. Cornelia Schleime tries, in her at the same time respectfull and ironical paintings, to understand who this enigmatic and fascinating person is behind his official shield towards the exterior world.

The second guest, the young norwegian Jan Christensen ( born 1977), looks into the conditions of the creative artist. Having a past as a graffitti artist, he paints directly on the walls of Charlottenborg, doing subtle, colourfull and suggestive comments on the status of art in our caotic information society.

The actual question of the memmbership of Turkey in EU is treated by Bente Christensen-Ernst. Her idea behind the portraits of wellknown as well as unknown turks with the shared title ”Are the Turks Europeans” is as sharp as a razorblade. The artist focusses on our attitude to this subject, a topic which has divided Europe across all parties, age and sex.

The relationship between the three big religions: christianity, islam and judaism, is of equal current interest. In her work ”The writing on the wall”, a total installation of sculpture, architecture, light and sound, Gerda Thune Andersen thematises the demoniacal and the misunderstandings, but also the theological point of departure shared by the three religions, a starting point which also binds them together.

As a consequence of PRO ́s interest in european questions the danish guest Fie Johansen shows black and white photos of Berlin. Among these subtle and aestetically beautifull pictures of the Holocaust monument by Daniel Liebeskind. The regular member of PRO, Karen Kjaer Laursen, shows a series of expressive paintings titled ”Berliner Frauen”.

Finally Bent Hedeby Sørensen, who has recently become a regular member of PRO, shows eight portraits under the title ”The Evil Child”. One shows Adolf Hitler as a child. With this series Bent Hedeby Sørensen poses the question of the nature of evil.

Apart from Cornelia Schleime and Jan Christensen the guests of the year are the painter Pernelle Maegaard, showing her animation ”Magic”, the sculptor Lena Søborg, who shows her work ”Situations”, female figures in plastic-foam material, Frode Steinicke, showing constructive sculptures, and Micha Maria Karlslund showing new works in glass.

The following regular members of PRO participate in the exhibition 2005: Gerda Thune Andersen, Gunnar Bay, Henrik Pryds Beck, Claus Bojesen, Bodil Brems, Jørn Bromann, Flemming Daastrup, Bente Christensen-Ernst, Jon Gislason, Erik Gram-Hanssen, Søren Hagen, Torben Heron, Annette Juel, Hans Kjær, Thorkild Hoffman Larsen, Karen Kjær Laursen, Nes Lerpa, Poul Lillesøe, Mogens Magnussen, Erik Rasmussen, Gunnar Saietz, Preben Franck Stelvig, Vicky Steptoe and Hans Tyrrestrup.
