press release

Strange Days, a dynamic new installation of more than a hundred works from the MCA’s collection, addresses unsettling aspects of contemporary life and offers unexpected representations of everyday phenomena. Identifying various ways that artists in the postwar era have responded to the unpredictable and often-tumultuous changes in the political, economic, social, and cultural landscape, the exhibition is divided into thematic groupings such as travel and mobility, work and labor, sexuality, architecture, language, trauma and history, and transgression.

Strange Days features new acquisitions to the MCA’s expanding collection by such artists as Andreas Gursky, Gillian Wearing, João Onofre, Chuck Close, Gary Simmons, Rineke Dijkstra, and Nobuyoshi Araki. Important works by Raymond Pettibon, Andy Warhol, Anselm Kiefer, Lorna Simpson, James Angus, Chris Burden, Howardena Pindell, Thomas Demand, Gabriel Kuri, Cindy Sherman, Balthus, William Kentridge, Jim Nutt, Richard Prince, Claire Zeisler, and Sharon Lockhart, among others, will also be presented. This exhibition is curated by MCA Associate Curators Staci Boris and Dominic Molon. Pressetext
