press release
'Travelin' Light' is an extensive collection presentation in which the linking element is the way the artists deal with materiality. They are related to each other by their idea that concept takes precedence over execution.
Sometimes, the execution is even contracted out, and there is no trace of the individual hand of the artist. A good example of this is provided by the recently acquired work by Michael Krebber (1954, Cologne). The work is a good supplement to the work Eigentum Himmelreich, 1983, by IMI Knoebel, who up to now has been the only representative of German art in the line of large, room-sized installations. ' Flaggs (Against Nature)', 2003, consists of sixteen 'paintings' of mounted curtain fabric with an abstract design, or of mounted children's bedspreads. The presentation also includes works by Marcel Broodthaers, René Daniëls, Peter Doig, Fons Haagmans, Suchan Kinoshita, Eadweard Muybridge, Bruce Nauman, Maries van Osch, Robert Ryman, Roman Signer, Lily van der Stokker, Luc Tuymans, Joëlle Tuerlinckx and Franz West, among others.
