A Perfect Union More or Less

Between the confusion of the 2000 presidential elections, the 2003 gubernatorial recall in California, and campaign finance reform, not to mention the rebuilding of Iraq, the mechanics of democracy have come under intense scrutiny. The subject of this exhibition is the exercising of democracy from small town assemblies (Maryanne Simmons) and national presidential elections (Jeoff Davis), to the aesthetics of government (Mark Themann, Mary Ellen Carroll, Van McElwee) and partisan divisions (Rashid Johnson). Work from across the nation will address challenges as posed directly to the body politic. Other artists included: Rob Conger, Jo Jackson, Mark Wagner & Jen Benka, Dominic McGill, Jennifer Perlin and Adam Brooks.
