Aaron Siskind and Franz Kline: Expression Through Abstraction

With his signature images of marks and shadows on concrete walls, floorboards, and stone fences, Aaron Siskind was one of the only photographers among the abstract expressionists in the 1940s and `50s, and a close friend to painter Franz Kline. Aaron Siskind and Franz Kline: Expression Through Abstraction features abstract photographs by Siskind and paintings by Kline from MOCA's permanent collection. Highlighting the recent gift of Aaron Siskind photographs from Marjorie and Leonard Vernon Collection, it also includes Siskind photographs borrowed from The Center for Creative Photography and The Marjorie and Leonard Vernon Collection. Together, these works explore a friendship and an approach to form rooted in abstract expressionism. The exhibition is organized by Rebecca Morse, MOCA curatorial assistant.

Aaron Siskind and Franz Kline: Expression Through Abstraction was organized by The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, and highlights the recent gift of Aaron Siskind photographs from The Marjorie and Leonard Vernon Collection.
