press release

ABC2004 is halfway and so is the famous backbone project City of Letters. Of the 26 letters, each of which was given to a duo consisting of an author and an artist from a different discipline, 14 letters have already been published in a journal of the same name. These journals are as varied as the artists behind them. And now it is the turn of the letter T. ABC2004, MuHKA, Joost Zwagerman and Hans Op de Beeck are proud to welcome you in the T-Mart: a supermarket like you have never seen before.

T-Mart is a commercialisation of the Aleph, the famous stone from the just as famous story by Jorge Luis Borges. If you cast your eye into the interior of the stone, you can see everything that was, is or will be in the world and all simultaneously. With this Aleph as a model, the ideal and final supermarket now exists. A beautiful supermarket. A dream of a supermarket. Or possibly a nightmare.

You are sure to want to have a look, for the makers can turn their hands to many things.

Joost Zwagerman (NL) writes poetry, prose, essays, columns and reviews. Last summer on the VPRO, where in 2004 he again presented "Zomergasten" (Summer Guests), you could also discover that he is critical, not shy and has the gift of the gab.

Hans Op de Beeck (B) is just as versatile. He is a photographer, drawer, filmmaker and composer. The medium is selected with care, always looking for a kind of parallel world, a timeless nowhere. In 2001 Op de Beeck was awarded the prestigious Prize for Young Belgian Painting, but meanwhile that is mere peanuts among his list of honours.
