In his debut NewYork museum exhibition, Milan-based Albanian artist Adrian Paci addresses the radical political shifts of his homeland and his experiences as an exile. In “Apparizione,” 2000, a split screen projection, Paci’s youngest daughter Tea sings to her Albanian relatives in Italianverse; while they respond with anAlbanian song. The back and forth between Tea and her familial chorus is a moving metaphor that bespeaks the stinging realties of their geographical separation. The video “Turn On,” 2004, demonstrates the emergence of modernity, promise and hope by focusing on Shkoder, Paci’s birth city in Albania. His work will be included in the upcoming Venice Biennale and a solo exhibition will be on display at the Contemporary Arts Museum in Houston this summer.
