Adriano Amaral
NOVEMBER 12, 2016 – JANUARY 22, 2017
ERÖFFNUNG: Freitag, 12. November, 19 Uhr

Adriano Amaral’s work is predominantly sculptural and is shaped by objects from his immediate surroundings. The human body as a closed and simultaneously permeable entity determines his artistic practice, as does his perception of architectural space and the utility of everyday things. In Amaral’s sculptures, objects and installations, various materials and composites amalgamate: natural elements like water, light and air encounter artificial products like silicone, make-up, clothing, aluminium, artificial resin or concrete. Many of his most recent works come about directly in an urban space as mouldings, and in the sense of a reversed objet trouvé. The solo exhibition at the Bielefelder Kunstverein is the first institutional solo exhibition by the Brazilian artist.

Adriano Amaral, born in 1982 in Ribeirão Preto (BR), lives and works in Amsterdam (NL) and São Paulo (BR). In the recent years solo exhibitions were shown, among others, by the gallery Mendes Wood DM in São Paulo (BR), by the gallery Múrias Centeno in Porto (PT) (both 2015), at Space in Between in London (UK) (2014) as well as by the gallery Transversal in São Paulo (BR) (2012). Furthermore he was represented by works in group exhibitions, among others, at the gallery Grimm in Amsterdam (NL), at the gallery f2 in Madrid (ES) (both 2015), at the gallery SpazioA in Pistoia (IT), at Zabludowicz Collection in London (UK) as well as at Galeria Athena Conemporȃnea in Rio de Janeiro (BR) (all 2014).
