Aleana Egan

Mary Mary is proud to present a solo exhibition by Aleana Egan for the June show at the gallery. Having presented large sculptural works and installations at Mary Mary previously, Egan will be showing new sculptural and poster works which centre around a large fixed foundation of wood that covers the gallery floor.

The ‘foundation’ acts as a platform or base from which the works relate to one another, each dealing with an ordering and structuring of duration, time and a resonating response. Groups of works function as progressions, pauses and stops from and to past experiences, acting as a way to deal with or arrange personal memory.

The process of making allows for an opportunity to make concrete these nostalgic occurrences, creating them as solid and important. Nostalgia or re-imagining and re-thinking in this sense, act as a tool from which to create symbols of “the persistence of the past in the present,” drawing together and filtering reactions and feeling towards them.
