press release

World Class Boxing announces an exhibition by Alice Channer entitled Works Folding Out Of And Into The Collection Of... Channer creates formalist sculptures influenced by quotations from fashion and design. The wall-mounted sculpture Untitled (Bangles) (2008) is comprised of variously sized bracelets that are hung from a dowel, as if it were an arm extending from the gallery wall. The New Look (2008), consists of a pair of fabric knife-edge pleats that cascades down the wall to rest on the gallery floor, resembling a scarf draped over a shoulder. Channer's work frequently locates details on the edges rather than in the center of her pieces giving the impression of parts left to signify a whole, with anthropomorphic touches underscore the suggestion of an awkward intimacy within the space.

Alice Channer was born in the UK in 1977 and currently lives and works in London. In 2009 she will also a solo exhibition at Dicksmith Gallery, London, and participated in the Hayward Gallery touring show Quiet Revolution. Channer graduated from the Royal College of Art, London in 2008 with an MA in Sculpture; this followed her BA in Fine Art, Studio Practice and Contemporary Critical Studies from Goldsmiths College, London, in 2006. She is represented in London by The Approach.

The exhibition opens February 14, 2009, from 7-10pm and runs through April 3, 2009.
