Andrea Branzi, Open Enclosures

L'architecte et designer italien Andrea Branzi imagine deux audacieuses installations pour la Fondation Cartier. Dotées de parois de verre et de métal et intégrant des éléments naturels – branches d’arbre et fleurs –, ces vastes installations, habitées par la voix de Patti Smith, ouvrent le dialogue avec l’architecture de Jean Nouvel. Fragiles, délicates et poétiques, ces structures hybrides illustrent ce que Branzi appelle «une modernité faible et diffuse», où perméabilité, provisoire et flexibilité sont les concepts-clés de l’architecture et du design du XXIe siècle.

Andrea Branzi, one of the most influential Italian architects and designers working today, will present two ambitious new installations created specifically for his exhibition at the Fondation Cartier. Realized in glass and metal interweaved with natural elements such as branches and flowers, these installations - immersed in a musical environment by Patti Smith - create a dialogue with the architecture of Jean Nouvel’s building. Fragile, delicate and poetic, these hybrid structures express what Andrea Branzi has called “a weak and diffuse modernity” where the translucent, the transitory and the flexible become the guiding concepts for architecture and design in the 21st century.
