press release

The thoughts that come to mind when I view Annuska Dal Masos oeuvre are tied to displacement, human essentialism, nostalgia, and a strong visual imagination on behalf of the artist. An element of interest apparent is the way she manages to view a site/location and create a story-tale from it. Atmospheric moments and modest articulated portraits outline the structure for very poetic chronologies. The portrait elements in Dal Masos works seems to reflect and feed the “body in context” elements, creating intriguing dualities: this leading to notions of what is being seen and felt in the narratives and how we (the viewer) interpret the characters in their space and time. The facial expressions and body gestures seem to fuel the tales created by the artist to giving the viewer more to think and link. The imaginative space that Dal Maso creates with the photographic medium seems intentionally left somewhat ambiguous and unfinished to highlight the importance and activation of imagination. Again Dal Maso creates an intriguing duality where we are not shore where our stories starts and the artists one ends. (text: Marco Red)
