press release

Gagosian Gallery is pleased to present two films by Anthony McCall, "Doubling Back" (2003) and a new film "Turning Under" (2004), which will be exhibited for the first time in London.

Anthony McCall’s extraordinary films are projected in a space without a screen so that the beam of light from the projector, and the physical interaction with the spectator, who may move in and out of the beam, become a complex spatial and temporal experience.

His early films, such as "Line describing a cone" (1973) have long been recognised as pivotal in the history of experimental film, and his work is currently being re-evaluated with exhibitions at the Centre Pompidou, Paris, Tate Modern, London and the Kramlich Collection, San Francisco. His recent film "Doubling Back" (2003) was shown to great acclaim at the Whitney Biennial this year. Pressetext
