Art Now

Art Now consists of four separate exhibitions realized as a partnership between the British Embassy, the British Council and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Skopje, honouring the birthday of Her Majesty the Queen. Art Now presents following exhibitions:

British Art from the Skopje Museum of Contemporary Art Collection

includes work by Bridget Riley, David Hockney, Howard Hodgkin, Victor Pasmore, Denis Bowen and others. MoCA owns art by over 80 artists from the United Kingdom, most of it representing the 1960s, almost all of it donated after the 1963 earthquake. Save Your Kisses for Me, a new installation by Slavica Janeslieva, an exciting young artist who says her installations are a reflection of her interest in history. She earned her BFA in 1996 and MFA in 1998, both in printmaking, from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Skopje. She has participated in Artist-in-Residence programmes in France and Switzerland and exhibited professionally since 1995 in more than 100 group exhibitions in 18 countries, including the US, Japan, France, Germany, and the UK. She has won numerous awards. Her work can be found in the collections of the Javaskula Art Museum in Finland and the World Bank in Washington, DC.

Self Portrait

video work by Maja Dzartovska Hill, a Macedonian artist who lives and works in the UK. As a painting as well as a video/animation, this work reflects artist’s love of portraiture. She says faces speak a “deep and complex language.” Born in Skopje in 1976, she has an MA in Interactive Production from the Southampton Institute – Southampton, and a BA in painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of ct.Kiril and Metodij, Skopje.

Documentation of The Phone Box Project

a performance piece by Verica Kovacevska. For this video documentation Kovacevska designed a series of performances which used phone boxes in Exeter in different ways. She posted information, photos of phone boxes around the world and their numbers; went on a series of walks, the route of which was determined through conversation with strangers she met by making phone calls. Born in Skopje in 1982, Kovacevska has a BA in Visual Arts with Theatre and Performance from the University of Plymouth, Exeter.
